Jeep Safari in Tanzania

ADVENTURE

We combine stylish and exclusive tented camps with a passion for wildlife, wilderness, and excitement amidst an ever-unfolding landscape that is raw, rich in game, and exquisitely beautiful.

The possibilities of a made to measure safari are endless, but here is an example of a custom-built trip in Northern Tanzania which includes stays in both our seasonal Camp of Osunyai in Tarangire National Park and our Mobile Camp in Serengeti National Park. Both are booked on an exclusive basis only. Also included are visits to the Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara National Park.

After you arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met and driven to Arusha. Situated in this busy little town’s outskirts, Arusha Coffee Lodge provides a calm retreat in a relaxing atmosphere. The 30 rooms are scattered amongst a working coffee plantation, and the main house, which has been designed around the owner’s original home, offers a restaurant, intimate bar, and a cozy lounge. The swimming pool and popular garden terrace add to the charm of the lodge.

The next morning, depart for Tarangire National Park for a game drive and a picnic lunch. Continue to the Osunyai Wilderness Camp, our exclusive camp set on the edge of the wilderness zone, close to the Silale wetland and prime elephant and buffalo habitat. In the heart of Big Game Country.

The camp is set beneath mature acacia trees facing the setting sun. A huge tent forms the nucleus of the camp. In the dining area, guests can enjoy delicious meals tailored to individual requirements and dietary preferences, sample wines from Southern Africa and beers from the region, as well as the normal selection of soft drinks, juices, and spirits. The lounge is there for relaxing and enjoying – afternoon tea is normally served there. Accommodations comprise luxury safari tents set to maximize the stunning in front of the camp where grazing game meanders. The tents are large and airy with full-width windows and en-suite bathrooms, king-sized double or two extra-long single beds, hanging wardrobe, luggage racks, and interior solar light tables. Each has a private veranda. Osunyai offers all the creature comforts of a seasonal camp whilst retaining our mobile heritage’s necessary balance.

You will spend 3 or 4 days in the baobab-strewn Tarangire: it is a haven for wildlife and has a vibrant game viewing potential: herds up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the oryx and the gerenuk are regularly observed. Osunyai and nearby Silale are fantastic habitats to view predators and prey in an unsurpassed setting. Close liaison with your driver-guide is greatly encouraged to ensure the choice of daily activities match your mood and pace. A wide range of wildlife and nature activities are offered within the area. In addition to the traditional game drives, we are happy to offer game walks accompanied by our own armed walking guide. Fly camp can also be arranged.

Your safari will then take you to Plantation Lodge – in our opinion, the best lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Built and run to a very high standard under Renate’s supervision, the owner, Plantation, offers its guests a unique opportunity to savor the atmosphere of staying in an elegant farm house set in beautiful tropical gardens. All the rooms are individually and tastefully furnished, and the meals include home-grown vegetables and fruits.

The next morning, early departure and game driving on the crater floor most of the day, including picnic lunch.

Standing at 2,236m above sea level, Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera globally and is surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the floor. Covering an area of 259km2, it is considered one of the Natural World Wonders and is a veritable haven for wildlife.

Proceed to your camp: Lemala Ngorongoro is a luxury camp situated on the crater’s rim and offering luxury accommodation under canvas in large spacious tents with wooden platforms and rugs. Each of the 8 tents has comfortable beds and private heaters, a dressing area, and an en-suite bathroom with running water.

Drive to Serengeti National Park – game drive en route to your camp and picnic lunch.

The days of heavy canvas hunting camps set for the likes of Roosevelt and Hemingway were almost over until photographic safaris gained popularity. Our Luxury Mobile Tented Camps are tasteful, extremely comfortable, and above all mobile, allowing us complete freedom to follow the great migratory herds’ movements. We are extremely proud to have the new tent bay fully operational for all our mobile safaris. The tents, which have been custom-designed for us, offer the highest comfort and mobility level. New furniture, new layout, and now full LED and energy-saving light technology make those early morning wake-up calls even more enjoyable! The bathrooms remain en-suite, but the shower now enjoys an open-air feel to really take advantage of the impressive night skies. All tents are en-suite with queen or twin bedded sleeping arrangements, silver service dining, and of course, our renowned well-balanced menus served alfresco under the African stars or in the candlelit dining tent.

Two or three full days will be spent exploring the nearby areas of the Serengeti ecosystem, following conditions, and the game’s movement. The Serengeti is where thousands of wildebeest, gazelle, topi, buffalo, and zebra draw predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, making it the world’s most exciting wildlife environment.

On the last day, fly to Arusha, where lunch and a day-use room will have been arranged. In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your international departure flight.
